题目:Computational intelligence for global challenges in health

报告人: Andrew Stranieri Associate ProfessorCentre for Informatics and Applied Optimisation,Federation University Australia

摘要:In recent decades, new approaches have emerged for the representation of reasoning so that information and communication technologies can be applied to support complex decision making in fields including law and medicine. Computational intelligence techniques based on argumentation theories have emerged that model the discretionary reasoning common in fields characterised with multiple viewpoints and no single best decision. These techniques underpin health informatics innovations including decision support, data mining and personalised information and make a central contribution to the health care crisis.  The health care crisis has been characterised with rising health costs, shortages of health care professionals, and the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions.  However, an analysis of the crisis demonstrates that computational intelligence advances are likely to transform health care but add as much to the crisis as they resolve.  Instead, a contribution to the crisis’s resolution can be expected to be made by the elevation of complementary and alternative medicine to a status  co-existent with allopathic medicine. For this to occur, numerous cultural, societal and technological challenges need to be addressed.

个人简介:

Associate Professor Andrew Stranieri is the  Director of the Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimization at the School of Science, Information Technology & Engineering  at Federation University Australia.  His research in combining argumentation theory with machine learning led to a new approach for modeling discretionary reasoning and numerous commercial decision support systems. This formed the basis of approaches to support group reasoning. Currently, he is involved with research in health informatics in data mining, decision support, complementary medicine informatics and telemedicine.  He is the author of over 100 peer reviewed articles and has published three books.
